We proudly offer free walking tours of Historic Downtown Gresham to school groups. This immersive experience gets students engaged with East Metro's diverse history and culture, showing how the past is still visible in the present if you know how to look for it. Our walking tour is designed to incorporate State of Oregon social studies standards and is adjustable to any grade level.
Tours last about one hour. Nearby amenities include Main City Park, which includes a playground and picnic shelter, and the Gresham Library, which also offers programming for school groups.
We require at least one month's notice to ensure the availability of our tour guides. Get in touch to schedule your visit.
We offer private tours for non-school groups for a requested donation of $10 per person (10 person minimum). Cemetery Tours explore the three historic cemeteries behind West Gresham Elementary. You'll learn about the colorful lives and deaths of the early residents buried there. Historic Downtown Tours take a loop through Old Gresham, looking at historic buildings and other landmarks. All tours last about one hour. Get in touch to learn more and schedule your tour.
Voices of Gresham is a podcast written and produced in-house using memories from our oral history collection. Listen to episodes on Japanese heritage, women's history, environment, and Prohibition while exploring online mini-exhibits of photos and documents.
Online archives, historic home resources, digitized newspapers, and in-person research visits are just a few of the research options we provide. What's your history mystery?
GHS volunteers and staff are working hard to find great local history stories and share them with you. Check out their research on our YouTube channel and learn about upcoming lectures at the museum.
We offer an array of rotating exhibits on themes in local history, changing every year to feature different subjects. Explore this year's exhibits with a kid-friendly museum scavenger hunt!
