Monochrome photo of a group of teenage girls, all wearing dark bloomers, light blouses, and harnesses connecting them to a two-wheeled hose spool. They are in front of a bay door that appears to lead to a fire station.

Volunteer at the Gresham Historical Society

Like many small museums, GHS relies on volunteers for most of our daily operations. Are you interested in joining the team? Here’s what we need:

Docents greet visitors during our open hours and sometimes work on small tasks out in the main room. These volunteers will familiarize themselves with the current exhibits and some basic facts about the museum and Gresham history, but no special qualifications are necessary. We encourage anyone with a positive attitude, enthusiasm for history, and outgoing personality to apply. Two to six hours per month can make a huge difference!

Collections volunteers work with the historic materials in the GHS archives, including books, documents, photos, and three-dimensional objects.  Collections volunteers should know their way around a computer and have a good eye for detail.

Research volunteers look up historical data for exhibits and web content.  These volunteers should have experience using online research resources and will familiarize themselves with the primary resources available in the GHS archives as well.

Landscaping and maintenance volunteers perform odd jobs around the building as needed, including custodial work.

Special events volunteers often have inconsistent availability and are “on call” rather than committing to a regular schedule.  These volunteers help set up and staff special events as needed.
