Miniature Masterpieces on Display at Gresham Historical Society & Museum

Posted by Gresham Historical Society & Museum on Sunday, September 29, 2019

According to the Gresham Outlook:

“The Mansion is 4 and a half feet wide, 5 feet deep and more than 5 feet tall. It has 28 different rooms, 650 working lights, and was made with 21 different kinds of natural wood. The house weighs 700 pounds and comes apart in four main pieces.”

This is just one of many miniatures on display from acclaimed artists Bruce Plumb. His miniatures are known worldwide and are unique according to The Los Angeles Times article, Cutting a Mansion Down to Size.

“…the three-story home includes a tower, safari room, an Oriental room with pagoda, an ornate ballroom, a game room complete with pinball machines and a two-inch working television.

What makes the Portland, Ore., man’s creation stand out in the world of miniature hobbyists, however, are the intricate inlaid wooden floors and vaulted wooden ceilings that Plumb painstakingly turned himself using a miniature lathe and shaper.”

“…He spent 180 hours alone just to cut, shape, polish and lay down the inlaid floor in the game room.”

The mansion and many other famous pieces like the cathedral and throneroom above are on display at the Gresham Historical Society and Museum. Please feel free to come by and visit.
